Year 9 Football Tournament - Final
Mr Homes sent this report:
On Tuesday, 2 May Year 9 students took on a 7 a-side football tournament down at the Gallagher Stadium in Maidstone. They played three 20 minute matches and throughout the whole tournament didn’t concede a single goal thanks to some brilliant defending and amazing goalkeeping.
There were some difficult encounters, such as not knowing what to expect in their first game, but they still came away with a 0-0 result. The second game is where Invicta shone and thanks to two great goals from Jasmine in 9S, we secured a 2-0 win against St Augustines.
The whole tournament came down to the final game between Invicta and New Line Learning, both teams on equal points and the same goal difference. Before the game, the students found out the opponents only had 6 players and honourably decided to go down to 6 players to join them as they didn’t want to win with an unfair advantage. After a tough game of 6v6 the result was 0-0 and we went to a penalty shootout to decide the winner of the tournament.
Sophie in 9T performed some heroic saves in the penalty shootout but, ultimately, Invicta finished second in the competition overall.
Across every round of the tournament, the girls did the school proud and could not have performed any better. They are already hard at work in preparation for next year!
