Personal Development
All individuals will flourish and fulfil their potential they will be equipped and willing to succeed in a modern, global society while having respect for themselves, others and the environment.
At Invicta, students develop the attributes of well-rounded individuals who are independent, resilient, responsible and engaged in a range of interests. We aim to encourage our students’ curiosity and love of learning, along with the invaluable skills of teamwork, perseverance and confidence. Equally, tolerance, respect, integrity and dignity will be fostered throughout.
To enable such development to take place, we have an extensive Personal Development Programme which instils in all students the character traits outlined in our Character Compass. Our carefully crafted Personal Development Programme promotes spiritual, moral, cultural, emotional and physical development; teaches and promotes the British Fundamental values; prepares students not only for the next stage of their education and training but also for their lives as active citizens and for success in the world of work, developing employability skills and work-ready behaviours.
The aim of the Personal Development (PD) curriculum is to provide our young people with the knowledge and skills to embrace the exciting opportunities the modern world brings, and to deal effectively with the challenges and risks they may encounter. We want our students to clearly understand how to keep themselves (and others) safe and healthy (online and offline), to be accepting of diversity, to show empathy and kindness, and to make a positive contribution to their school, local, and wider communities.
Our PD curriculum also plays in a key role in the safeguarding of our students; adopting a preventative approach and signposting to people/organisations to offer support, advice and guidance. Our curriculum is also flexible and responsive to dealing efficiently with school, local and wider issues as they arise – providing a safe and supportive environment to discuss complex, sensitive and current topics.
At Invicta we have designed our PD curriculum around 6 essential ‘ASPECTS’ in order to ensure that as a school we:
A - Develop Active Citizens
S - Ensure Safety and Wellbeing
P - Enable Positive Relationships, Lifestyle and Health
E - Promote Equity, Inclusivity and Diversity
C - Develop Students' Character
T - Provide for Effective Transition, Careers and Employability
And, we achieve this through a wealth of initiatives, opportunities and programmes as shown in the below diagram:
Every single student has a host of opportunities to ensure that they flourish and develop the character and skills for their lives as active citizens and for success in the world of work, developing employability skills and work-ready behaviours. At Invicta we offer:
- 57 Clubs and Societies, including sport, music, creatives, STEM, performing arts, wellbeing and many more.
- 11 Academic Hubs run by students for students, some of which include Classical Civilisation Hub, Law Hub, and Literature Hub
- POP which delivers over 40 activities and clubs The options are extensive and examples include chess, yoga, gardening, coding, bee keeping, nature ramble, Warhammer, football and photography.
- 69 school trips of which 16 are international. Such global experiences to places such as Tokyo, California, Hong Kong and Iceland enable our students to broaden their cultural awareness.
- 171 extra-curricular activities including public speaking competitions, STEM challenges, music performances, school productions, sports fixtures, debating, Duke of Edinburgh Award, leadership opportunities and the Invicta Diploma.
Students also take pride in supporting a vast variety of charities and community projects, both local and international, and last year they raised over £28,000.
