Music Opportunities
Invicta is proud to have one of Kent’s busiest and most thriving music departments. More than 350 students engage weekly with our diverse, inclusive and high achieving ensembles.
- A 150 student strong lower school choir
- A 100 student strong upper school choir
- A chamber choir
- A gospel choir, with our visiting gospel specialist, Abi Balfour
- VIAT Concert choir, with expert guest choral conductor Dr James Meaders
- A symphony orchestra, with professional conductor Joseph Wolfe
- A string orchestra, led by our Musician in Residence and string specialist.
- A wind band, led by our woodwind specialist.
- A big band, led by our Musician in Residence and jazz specialist.
- A steel pan band
- A guitar ensemble, led by our Musician in Residence and guitar specialist.
- “Friday band” - a collaborative and popular VIAT rock/pop programme led by industry-leading experts at Valley Park School
Students at Invicta have extensive opportunities to perform both internally and externally, including:
- The October 11+ Open Evening
- The Autumn Concert
- The 16+ Open Evening
- Christmas Music at Leeds Castle
- The Advent Service at All Saints, Maidstone
- Carols at Maidstone Museum
- “Spotlight Concerts” – for soloists and small chamber groups

- The Spring Concert
- A choral celebration of singing at St Mary’s, West Malling, featuring our VIAT Choral Scholars.
- The VIAT Summer Festival, featuring bands, choirs and orchestras

The department is well resourced with three full time members of staff, six Musicians in Residence and fifteen additional visiting peripatetic teachers covering most instruments, including all orchestral instruments, band instruments, voice and piano.
