Special Education Needs and Disability Information
Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) specifically benefit from high-quality support. Their individual needs are well known. Adaptations to learning are subtly made and are very effective, ensuring these pupils achieve highly.
Ofsted, 2024
At Invicta, we value the abilities and achievements of all of students, including those who have special educational needs or a disability (SEND), and we are committed to providing, for each student, the best possible environment for their welfare and learning, enabling them to achieve the best possible outcomes for the next stages of their education and life.
All teachers are teachers of students with SEND, and our Pastoral Team, including the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCo), work with all teaching staff, support staff, parents, students and, where necessary, outside agencies, to ensure that every student achieves their full potential.
Our SEND department operates in line with the Code of Practice laid down by the Department for Education. In the Code of Practice, there are four broad categories of needs, and the school is able to make provision for each of these:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and Learning
- Social, Mental, and Emotional Health
- Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Our commitment to inclusion includes:
- Thorough transition: We aim to provide a smooth transition at each stage for all students and parents.
- Equal Access: All students, including those with SEND, have equal access to our extensive curriculum and its opportunities.
- Rigorous Monitoring: We closely monitor the progress of all students, making reasonable adjustments as necessary to ensure students are making appropriate progress.
- Comprehensive Support: Our school makes use of a wide range of funding strands and resources to provide additional support and opportunities for students with SEND. This includes extra-curricular activities.
- Collaborative Approach: We work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to develop a personalised record of outcome plan, or provision plan, that meets the unique needs of each student.
By fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, we empower our students with SEND to overcome challenges, build confidence, and achieve their goals.
