On Sunday, 8 October, we flew to Japan to take part in World School 2023 - a forum where schools all across the world meet to discuss different issues and this year it was being hosted by the founding school Kanto in Tokyo, Japan. Our trip began with a long but entertaining flight where Jess, Aditi and I were able to get to know each other better and talk about what we were expecting from the trip and our predictions. We had a lot of fun keeping ourselves busy for the journey there. Although a little jet lagged, as soon as we landed, we couldn’t wait to explore the city and meet the other students, some of whom we travelled to the Katsura campus with after we landed.
The five days that we spent at the Katsura campus were unforgettable. It was really easy to bond with the other students and we had a lot of fun sightseeing with them in the local town of Katsura where we visited a martial arts university, went on scenic walks, and had the chance to go to morning markets for breakfast. My by far favourite day was our last day in Katsura where all the countries had the chance to perform with beautiful traditional performances to the Just Dance “Waka Waka” from the South Africans!
We ended our trip in Tokyo where we met our wonderful host families who showed us the various different sights. My host Wako and I took the subway to Tokyo Skytree which had absolutely amazing views of the whole of the city lit up at night. It was an unforgettable experience, and we left the trip with lifelong and worldwide friendships and memories. I would 100% recommend this trip to anyone that has the chance to go.
