Prom: The Back Story
In life there are several key moments, that indicate the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. So, after a series of ‘lasts’ (last lesson, last assembly, last school lunch, last exam etc.), the Year 13 prom was our moment to say a final goodbye. With A-levels behind us, our secondary education is officially finished. This means that from now on, there will only ‘firsts’.
I think this was reflected in our excitement towards the event. It wasn’t just a chance to put on a pretty dress and dance, it was a celebration of what is to come.
Now I am not ashamed to admit; I find EVERY part of prom exciting. For my friends and I, prom begins in the morning (we go by the motto ‘it is never too early to start getting ready’). Everyone looked amazing, elegant and happy…a stark contrast to the ‘writing exams’ look (which requires minimal effort).
After all the preparation, finally it was the big event. There were, of course, pictures … LOTS of pictures. There was dancing. With A-level stress behind us, we were able to finally relax, let our hair down and enjoy this long awaited moment. (Some people certainly did let their hair down on the dance floor!)
Like our time at Invicta, prom ended on a high. With mixed emotions, we wished each other good luck for the future, making promises of summer plans. Somehow the day after prom, you feel a little older, wiser, different and ready for this next era. I am so grateful that we were given such a beautiful evening to signal our series of ‘firsts’.
