Who Runs the World? GIRLS!
Who Runs the World? GIRLS!
As we approach International Women’s Day on Friday 8 March 2019, I have been reflecting on those women who inspire me, fill me with happiness, and generally bring a positive light to my life. Women are now engaging in so many different professions that they would not have done a few years ago – something I think is so special and empowering. There are so many women that I think have contributed positively to my life, albeit 17 years.
My Mum – I would not be the girl I am without my beautiful mum. She is my best friend. I am so lucky to be able to share everything with her and would not change my relationship with her for the world. This is definitely something I do not take for granted. On such regular occasions, I am told how similar I am to my mum, and I definitely take it as a compliment!
My Friends – I am in a large group at school – there are 12 of us; 10 girls! They are the ones who always inspire me and teach me such amazing things about their passions. We are all so different, but this is why we get along so well; because we always have something new to talk about! I will be sad to leave this group at school, but I hope we all remain friends after Invicta.
My Nanas – I feel so fortunate to still have all 4 of my grandparents. My nana’s have watched me mature into a woman, and I can only thank them for raising my parents to raise me. Although they are both so different, I see characteristics of both of them in me - something I am so proud to have.
My Best Friend – There are a couple of years between my best friend and I, but I see this as a blessing in disguise. Florence gives me so much advice, picks me up when I am down, and always makes me laugh until I cry. We have been best friends since the age of 4, and she is one of those friends where we just pick up where we left off! She really is one in a million.
Sophie Radcliffe – Sophie came to speak at my Year 11 Awards Evening, and I don’t think I will ever forget her speech. It was the first time I had really felt so inspired, I was so similar to Sophie. If I get to achieve anything that Sophie has, I will be so proud of myself.
Emma Watson – I think Watson is one of the most incredible women of this generation. I remember watching her speech on Gender Equality; seeing her passion for the subject was infectious. She is so inspiring, and her achievements are unbelievable!
Mrs. Derrick – She didn’t ask me to put her in this, but she certainly deserves a mention! Mrs Derrick has created an incredible environment for me to grow up in and make some of the most amazing memories. She works so hard to consider every student and her positivity is so contagious! I have loved working closely with her this year as Head Girl!
The students at Invicta – It really is on a rare occasion that I see an Invicta student unhappy. And seeing their beaming smiles, makes me smile, makes me feel inspired, and makes me realise how lucky I am to be in such a positive environment.
I hope this encourages you to think about the important women in your life. Please let them know how they impact your life!
