What is Aspiration?
Aspiration is defined as the hope or ambition of achieving something. To me, aspiration is the key to success. Next year, I have to pleasure of being part of the Senior Prefect Team, and as part of this I have been assigned the role of Aspiration Prefect. In my last year at Invicta, I would like to portray the message that aspiration, determination and hard work can lead to a multitude of amazing achievements.
Ever since year 7, I had the aspiration of being Head Girl, and this was always in the back of my mind. Initially, everything I did was governed by the fact that one day I might have the chance of becoming Head Girl. However, I soon came to realise that what I was doing – helping out at events, not missing a day of school, volunteering for everything – I was genuinely enjoying, and this made my aspiration even stronger. During this academic year, I had the amazing opportunity to apply for Head Girl and was lucky enough to make it onto the Senior Prefect Team. This was an invaluable experience and I am grateful for every single part of it; not only to mention how excited I am for the next academic year! If it was not for my initial aspiration to be Head Girl, I would not be in the situation I am in currently, and I cannot emphasise enough how important that is to me.
Aspiration can be directed by many things, but I believe opportunities are a major stimulus and catalyst for aspiration. At Invicta, we are so lucky to have so many opportunities available to us. For example, there are a range of international trips to choose from, academic lectures and trips, leadership and teamwork prospects, to name but a few. Whether these opportunities inspire you to create an aspiration, or whether they instil a current one and get you closer to achieving your goal, opportunities are a key part of aspiration. It is so important that we make the most of every opportunity thrown our way, while we have access to them, because they offer invaluable experiences and develop amazing skills and qualities in us.
I believe that everyone should have an aspiration to work towards, whether long or short term. I would like to challenge every student to have that goal in the back of their mind, driving you through everything. Whether this goal is to become Prime Minister or just simply to hand in that piece of homework on time, your aspiration for success is crucial. So, as important as hard work and determination are to achieving your goal, aspiration is the initial inspiration that spurs you on to make sure that you accomplish your dreams.
