Christmas – a time to reflect and appreciate!
YES – it’s that time of the year again (Alexa play “Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande!!) and I am so looking forward to soaking up all the positive energy that is synonymous with Christmas! The tree is up, the Nativity DVDs are out and the money in my bank account is going down like a sack a potatoes – sounds like Christmas to me!
As excited as I am about the festive season, I’ll have to admit the events of 2020 almost had me oblivious to the fact that Christmas even exists. This pandemic has brought so many challenges for a lot of people around the world, that it very much seems difficult to take away any pleasant memories from this year – however, this is not at all the case. Just as how we physically prepare for Christmas by putting on fairy lights and listening to carols, it is also important to exercise reflection and gratitude, so that we can mentally get into the festive spirit. Here is my top tips to do just that!
“Always count your blessings”. This saying is especially relevant during this time of the year, as reflection over the past 12 months helps to identify the things that we are truly grateful for. I find that doing this, renews my mindset and uplifts my spirits; meaning that I can enter a new day, month or year feeling content and ready to embrace life. So, try having a go at counting your blessings – what relationships do you cherish? Who makes you laugh? Maybe you have pets that mean a lot to you? Perhaps you’ve travelled to some beautiful places? Even the mere fact that you can walk on two legs is a huge blessing! Being aware of the things that you appreciate is the perfect way to embrace the joys of Christmas and celebrate with your loved ones!
Now that we are in a positive mindset for Christmas, let’s think practically. Getting into the Christmas spirit will definitely involve many purchases, from buying presents for friends and family, and let’s not forget about the hefty food shop for Christmas Dinner! This brings me on to my second tip – “Shop Smart”! Having such a long shopping list, it may seem like a good idea to dedicate a whole day and get all the shopping out of the way; however, I find that to be rather stressful and exhausting. Instead, I’d recommend creating a list of all items needed and sorting them out into categories – then ensure to focus on a specific category each day. For example: mum’s present one day, house decorations another. This way, you are able to manage your list effectively and make Christmas shopping more of an enjoyable experience!
I hope that you have found these tips useful and reading this blog has made you excited for Christmas! Finally, what would Christmas be without RAG week? This year, there will be so much to look forward to at school, so feel free to get a head start on your RAG costumes!
