Living in the Present
Over the two years I have been at Invicta, I have had a greater appreciation of the people around me and my experiences. The reason for this is because I have been able to live more in the present moment. Living in the present is sometimes difficult, and it has been a challenge for me. However, being more appreciative of everything has had a positive impact on me.
I believe that it is good to think about the future and the past, but it has also been a source of stress for me. Re-examining past decisions, worrying about forthcoming events or thinking about what you wish you could have done better in an activity, allows us to re-evaluate. It is great thing to do as it helps us make better decisions to ensure that we improve like it has done for me. However, constantly worrying can also have the opposite effect, preventing us to reach our full potential.
Although I have always appreciated the positive experiences and memories I have and continue to have, there have been instances where I failed to fully enjoy what has been happening in front of me. The reason for this is thinking for the future or looking back on the past. Thinking about your future such as university and getting a job can also make you forget about the present. It is hard thinking about the end of our school journey, leaving school and a group of friends that I have a very strong bond with. But the constant support I receive from my friends has been very helpful. It has allowed me to appreciate and live the experiences I had with them to the fullest.
With A levels coming soon, I have had doubts with certain subject areas. While I am still needing to progress further, allowing to give myself more confidence and trying to worry less about the different outcomes that could occur, has allowed me to work better and be less critical of myself. Thankfully, being in the present moment, focusing on the very revision task at hand has allowed me to improve.
While it has been challenging, living more in the present has given me a new level of appreciation for the experiences I have had at Invicta and during my school years. The memories from Sports Day, RAG week, charity fundraising events and being a senior prefect will be those that I cherish and think fondly of in years to come.
