Invicta Vlogs
Community
When I entered the doors of Invicta 7 years ago, never would I have pictured my experience at school ending the way it has with the given circumstances of COVID-19. To see our exams and last day celebrations taken away overnight has been very hard for everyone in Year 11 and 13 to comprehend.
On Friday 20 March, many of us celebrated what could be our final day at Invicta. It was a day full of laughter, photographs and a lot of tears! I have always said that my favourite thing about Invicta is the community that holds the school together - from students to teachers to parents. Never have I been more proud than on this day to be Head Girl of Invicta. To see the school spirit of students throughout the school coming together to take the time to celebrate the memories they have made throughout their Invicta journey was truly wonderful. Even if we did not get the last day we wanted, in light of the current situation, being able to see everyone for one more time and say our goodbyes to a large part of our lives made me realise how close I am to so many teachers and students, not only in my year group, but throughout the school and how I have truly made many friends for life.
Whilst it is easy to see the negatives amidst the current global situation, I think it is important that we look at the positives that have been happening in the recent weeks that have been overshadowed by this pandemic.
- At the time of writing this, almost 120,000 people in the World have recovered from the virus thanks to the great healthcare provision and support from communities across the globe.
- The water flowing through the canals in Venice is completely clear for the first time in years.
- Air pollution has dramatically decreased, with it being reported by researchers in New York that carbon monoxide levels had been reduced by almost 50% in comparison with last year.
- Wuhan have closed the last of their temporary hospitals.
- The first human trial for the vaccine against Coronavirus has begun.
On that note, I wanted to take the time to say thank you. Thank you to all of my teachers for never giving up on me both academically and personally. Thank you to all of my friends, for experiencing with me some of the best memories that I will cherish. Thank you to every member of the Senior Prefect Team for helping out over the past year- from giving speeches to coming into school at 7:30am on every non-uniform day to hold the buckets at Reception, as well as to Mrs Harrington and the rest of the Leadership Group for supporting us. And with the current situation, it is essential to take the time to thank every NHS worker and key worker who without, the country would not be able to function, so thank you!
Whilst saying goodbye to Invicta, I sadly have to say goodbye to the role of Head Girl, one that I have thoroughly enjoyed undertaking over the past year. When I inherited this position, I hoped to act as a role model to younger students and I hope that over the past year, I have demonstrated this and left a legacy that despite challenges you may face ,both at school and personally, there is always a way through them and you can aspire to anything you set your mind to. With aspiration in mind, in September, I am planning on studying medicine at my top university choice at Cardiff University and I hope to progress to become a Doctor specialising in the genetics of oncology. In doing this, I will be leaving the school in the capable hands of the new Head Girl, Maria, new Head Boy, Luke and the rest of the new Senior Prefect team, who I am confident will do an amazing job and will keep the Invicta community spirit alive.
Thank you again and make sure you, your friends and your family are all staying safe in these difficult circumstances.
