Return to Normality
After the recent relaxation of the Coronavirus restrictions, life has started to return to normality, albeit very slowly. Although for many people this is an exciting step in the right direction, as they can meet friends and eat out in pub gardens, for others it is a very daunting time. The easing of restrictions means more time spent closer to others and a possible higher risk of exposure to the Coronavirus. In order to prevent further spread of the disease, we must take these next steps sensibly so we can continue our progression to a brighter future.
On the topic of returning to normality, larger events will resume, which for many, brings a sense of excitement. At school, sporting and music events are making a return in the summer, as well as international competitions, like the Olympics. At the moment, the Olympic torch is in Mizayaki, Japan as it tours the country before featuring in the Olympic opening ceremony where the Olympic flame is lit.
The Olympic torch has always been a beacon of hope. It represents the unity that competition can bring, regardless of current world politics. It also symbolises a simple world of competition and endeavour in which hard work nearly always prevails. This hope and feeling of anticipation has been sorely missed during the lockdowns, where it seemed that there was nothing to look forward to. This relates to each of us, because we now have the opportunity to start new hobbies, engage in school clubs and broaden our horizons; as things start to reopen, we can make use of them and make up for lost time!
Finally, the three core values of the Olympics are: Excellence, Friendship and Respect. As Invicta students, we can strive to embody all of these values: excellence both in and out of school; friendship, which can make anything enjoyable and most importantly respect towards anyone we work with or against. These values can all be achieved with a positive mental attitude. By having a positive outlook on any task we undertake, we can make the task enjoyable and complete it to the best of our ability.
Thank you very much for reading my final blog as Head Boy. I hope you enjoy the summer term and the rest of your school career. Remember to seize every opportunity you are given!
