Invicta Events
As we begin our fourth week back at school, it is really satisfying to see the return of the many traditional Invicta events that sadly were unable to take place in quite the same way last year.
The last three weeks have been packed with events during which the Invicta community has come together to spend time enjoying one another’s company. Year 7 have made a really impressive start to secondary school life and as their welcome month draws to a close, I have no doubt that as individuals and as a year group, they are going to have a really positive impact on each other and the school as a whole.
Year 7 welcome month has been jam packed with opportunities to help the students get to know one another, grow in confidence and simply have fun! The team building day was a great success and students’ competitive spirits were in full flow. The form groups have also enjoyed breakfast drinks and cookies with the Leadership Group, and it was really interesting for us to hear their thoughts on their first few weeks at Invicta. We still have the ‘Primary Head Teachers Tea’ and the form group picnics to look forward to.
Last week we were pleased to be able to run our Leadership Fair, at which many students committed to initiatives which will help them develop valuable skills. This event was closely followed by our Clubs and Societies Fair, an extremely popular event, where students from all year groups signed up to some of the many opportunities on offer. There were over 70 clubs and societies represented, providing students with a vast range of sporting and musical, creative and artistic, technological and academic experiences.
In addition to the Clubs and Societies Fair, there was also a selection of Academic Hubs on offer. These hubs, which can be attended by students from all year groups, are student led discussion groups, enabling them to develop a wider and deeper understanding of areas of interest to them such as law, medicine, science, classics engineering and fashion and textiles to name but a few.
The Macmillan cake sale on Thursday was also very popular and students and staff enjoyed an extended breaktime eating cakes and drinking milkshakes all in aid of this very important charity.
Just this weekend we were pleased to see the return of the Invicta FIGS Autumn Fair. This event, I believe, can now be regarded as a true Invicta tradition and as in previous years, the whole school community came together with musical and dance performances, fun filled activities with plenty of burgers, hot-dogs, sweets and cakes!
As a school there is no doubt that we have missed being able to hold these events which make us unique and we are glad that this autumn we have been able to reinstate so many of these. If the buzz and busyness of the first three weeks is a taster of what is to come, I am sure that our students, staff and parents are in for a truly remarkable year ahead.
