Invicta Vlogs
Having watched the BBC coverage of Children in Need on Friday evening I was amazed and humbled to see that the UK raised an incredible sum of £32.6 million for such a brilliant and worthy cause.
It really does ‘hit home’ how lucky most of us are. It also highlighted how so many people around us ‘go that extra mile’ to help others, as well as reinforcing the concept that we are all individuals who have different needs and that these needs change. The 30th anniversary of the Band Aid Single for ‘Do You Know It’s Christmas?’ also highlights that we will I hope, as a nation, always focus on others’ needs. My aim is that our students at Invicta are not only looked after as ‘individuals’ but that the girls, will themselves, understand the importance of accepting and supporting one another’s individual needs.
This week is Anti-Bullying Week and the needs of individuals across the school along with our ability to empathise is key to the themes that we will be exploring. ‘Pulling someone down will never help you reach the top’ eloquently reflects what I feel about such an awful act. As I talk to the girls and see them in their environment I get great pleasure in the knowledge that my students are safe and happy in their environment and if they are not, then we act quickly to ensure that they are.
Our childhood is a precious aspect of growing up but one thing I do know is that I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for protection. That is why it is so important for us to actively promote Anti-Bullying.
These examples emphasise the impact we can have in standing up against problems that appear too large and intimidating to tackle alone. However, that begins with the individual; as strong individuals we need to act with empathy if we are to have the power to make a real and lasting change. The results of which can be seen in the cases of Children in Need and Band Aid – individuals carrying out small but significant acts which can ripple throughout the country. I am confident that our students at Invicta embrace this act of empathy and the importance of individuality.
