Over the course of the last week, we have welcomed back students and staff from their travels to Italy, where they visited Sorrento, Vesuvius and Pompei to name but a few places. Then, we also ‘waved off’ our Year 10 students on a trip to Disneyland, Paris. Our weeks are always busy at Invicta and our trips are a particularly big aspect of what fills our calendar. I have also, this week, spoken to several students about their ambitions – a great aspect of my role. As part of my conversations, I relayed my views that “Life does not come to you, so go to it and let it fly.” I like this inspiring phrase and especially love seeing it in action, in the way our students embrace the opportunities given to them – travel being a key aspect of this.
So, when I have also had this week, some of our Alumni students sending photographs of their travels to Australia, Asia and America it fills me with joy – not just because they like to stay in contact, but because they clearly have a thirst for finding out about the world they live in. Similarly, I know that a number of our Year 13 students hope to travel as part of a Gap Year – ready to explore and become even more independent.
What strikes me about all of this, is that the amazing opportunities open to our students would not happen without an incredibly passionate team of staff who give up an inordinate amount of time – both in school, of an evening, weekends and holidays. We all know that the life of a teacher is extremely busy, but I want to use this as an opportunity to thank our special team. They care for our students beyond the classroom; they do not look at their role as just imparting subject knowledge and passing exams; they clearly are a group of professionals that work hard to make a positive difference in all aspects of our students’ lives – they make a positive difference to enable our students to fly!
Today, Mrs Lloyd and Mrs Brewster will take students to Cambridge to meet Alumni students and visit colleges. On Thursday, our ‘new’ Year 7 will watch ‘Jungle Book’ at the cinema, and on Friday, our Duke of Edinburgh Award students will embark on their Bronze Award Expedition. None of these thigs would happen without our incredible team of staff. Thank you VERY much to each and every one of them.
