Food Preparation and Nutrition

8 oct 2020 photo food technology15

While studying Food Preparation and Nutrition students will learn all about the source, seasonality, and characteristics of a broad range of ingredients and will be able to understand and apply the principles of nutrition and health. Our aim is to equip students with the knowledge and understanding to make informed choices about food. Practical lessons consist of both savoury and sweet dishes and provide students with a range of essential cooking skills required for life.

Food links to a variety of subjects, including Mathematics, English, RS, Geography, Science and Personal Development. Students will learn to be creative, inquisitive, ambitious and confident. There are a broad range of career possibilities in the food industry; the Food Preparation and Nutrition GCSE course prepares students for many options; from being a chef to working in food development. Our teachers are passionate and supportive; students not only make excellent progress but enjoy studying Food.

Key Stage 3

During Year 7 and 8, students learn about Food in both an engaging and interactive way. By the end of Year 8 students will be equipped with a range of practical skills and a sound understanding of the principles of nutrition, having a greater understanding of the world around them. Lessons alternate between theory and practical, the practical lessons help to embed the theory learnt and prepare students with essential cooking skills required for life.
