European Day of Languages
Mrs Puerto Garcia sent this report:
Every year on 26 September we mark the European Day of Languages. As a school which values the importance of teaching modern foreign languages and has internationalism as a core principle for a well-rounded education, we always try to raise awareness about the benefit of speaking another language and celebrate our students’ bilingualism or, in many cases, multilingualism.
This year, the MFL department launched a new competition asking students to come up with a design for a mug celebrating the European Day of Languages and promote the linguistic diversity of our school.
The student with the best design in each form was then asked to create their own mug using acrylic paint pens. You can really see the time that the students dedicated to designing their mugs and the results have been fantastic.
The MFL department had the challenging task to judge the best designs overall and I am thrilled to announce that the winners are:
Per year group:
Alice, 7V
Layla, 8V
Marta, 9V
Rhiannon, 10G
Hannah, 11V
Lily, Frank 1
Suman, Colvin 2
Per House:
Austen: Claudia, 8A
Bronte: Anna, 8T
Colvin: Tishe, 8G
Curie: Ellie, 10C
Frank: Layla, 8V
Nightingale: Grey, 10N
Pankhurst: Samina, 8I
Roddick: Elise, Roddick 1
And the overall winners are:
1st - Layla, 8V
2nd - Elise, Roddick 1
3rd - Lily, Frank 1
All the winners of the competition were rewarded with a celebratory breakfast with hot chocolate and Danish pastries. A very big well done to all students for taking part and to all the winners for their creativity and enthusiasm. See you next year for another exciting competition!
