Globe Players
Miss Sayer sent this report:
On Friday, 10 March we hosted the Globe Players, a theatre group, who delivered performances for Year 7 (What You Will – an introduction to Shakespeare), Year 8 (Romeo and Juliet) and Year 10 (An Inspector Calls). These performances all complemented the texts and topics students have been studying in their English lessons and provided invaluable opportunities to secure the students’ understanding (as well as being good fun!).
Here are reports from some of our students about their individual performances from the day:
Amelia and Lyra in 7A had this to say about the visit:
The visit from the Globe Players was an exciting opportunity to dive further into the world of Shakespeare. It was a great way to consolidate our previous knowledge of Shakespeare. All of the scenes performed were gripping and clear to the audience with relevant facts in between each performance. Despite being an educational experience, the actors were interactive with the audience and performed entertaining snippets from many popular plays including Macbeth and A Midsummer Night's Dream among many others. Some students even got to take part in the performance! Overall it was an excellent experience.
Louisa and Chisom in 8A also throughly enjoyed their performance:
On Friday, 10 March, the whole of Year 8 were lucky enough to watch a Shakespeare play (Romeo and Juliet) presented by members of the Globe Theatre. This entailed the cast explaining parts of the story that some may not understand to help engage the audience. I really liked this approach as it engaged the audience more to listen and adapt their thoughts on Romeo and Juliet. I enjoyed seeing the four actors take on numerous different roles (even though this meant lots of costume changes) as this showed us the power of theatre with a small cast. The actors were so funny and interacted with the audience quite a bit, which made a lot of people laugh. Some of the scenes were a bit emotional, romantic, yet humorous at the same time. Personally, I would love to watch the performance again because it was just that good.
