Spring Concert 2023
Mr Heaton sent this report:
The students in the Invicta Music Department have really pushed themselves this year, and the annual Spring Concert, the most ambitious programme of the school calendar, did not disappoint.
The evening began in explosive fashion, with the sublime Another Day of Sun bringing together the talents of the school choirs, orchestra, steel pan group and marching drums in an unforgettable performance that set the tone for the rest of the evening.
The String Orchestra (Sempre Libera), Guitar Ensemble (Toxic) and Big Band (Stevie Wonder Medley) gave accomplished performances that showed mastery and a deep understanding of their respective genres. The Steel Pan Group (Stir It Up/Thinking Out Loud) and Wind Band (Disco Medley), led by the irrepressible Mrs Robinson, brought a smile to many a face, with a particularly noteworthy choreography in YMCA!
The school orchestra, under the baton of maestro Joseph Wolfe, gave a musical masterclass in bringing Prokofiev’s Dance of The Knights to life that showed a level of musicianship that belied the years of the performers.
Our Lower and Upper School choirs too, were typically memorable, showcasing a wide range of unforgettable numbers including The Seal Lullaby and Hey Brother (Upper School Choir) and Here Comes The Sun and You Get What You Give (Lower School Choir). The evening was rounded off with another showstopper; Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now, which beautifully brought together the school choirs and orchestra in a moment of profound reflection.
Congratulations must be extended to all of our Invicta Musicians, who continue to climb to seemingly unstoppable heights. Well done indeed!
