Staff Profile - Mrs Martin
Name: Mrs Caroline Martin
Role: Student Support Administrator Years 10 & 11
Favourite Book: I don’t get chance to read as many books as I would like. The one book that was inspirational to read was A Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown. I am hoping to write my own book(s) in the future about my experience being a foster carer, watch this space.
Favourite Film: The one film I could watch over and over again is Shawshank Redemption.
Hobbies: I like to take our dogs out for long walks and discovering new routes. I spend most of my weekends traveling to skate parks with my son (no I don’t participate!) In my spare time I like to play my vinyl records and DJ to family and friends.
Favourite Food: Anything spicy, not a fan of bland food!
Favourite Holiday destination: Tricky one this, so many lovely destinations to choose from. I think Sri Lanka was a wonderful place to visit and the Sri Lankan people were so accommodating, people who had very little would come up to us offering bottles of water for nothing in return. The food was out of this world and catching a Tuk Tuk taxi is a must.
If you did not work in a school what job would you like to do? I think if I didn’t work in a school, I would have liked to have become a Social Worker.
What is the most challenging thing you have achieved? Before my time working in schools, I was a foster carer fostering children and young adults. This was a rewarding job and every day was a learning curve. We used to enjoy taking our foster children on holiday. For some of the children they were experiencing their first holiday, first trip to the beach, first time in a hotel. Seeing their faces light up with excitement was heart-warming. As a family we gained so much from the fostering and even our own children realised how lucky they are to have the things they have and to appreciate it.
Why did you decide to work in education? I never really planned to work in education until an opportunity came up working in a SEN school. I really enjoy working in a school environment and watching students grow with confidence through the years.
How have you found your first term at Invicta? The first few months have been challenging and over whelming. But all the staff have been very helpful and supportive, I can’t thank them enough. I have finally found my feet and very much enjoying my role in Student Support and being part of a fantastic team.
