Maidstone Schools Football Tournament - Year 7
Mr Shingleton sent this report:
On Thursday, 22 February Year 7 took part in the group stages of the Maidstone Schools Football Tournament, with the aim to qualify for the final at the Gallagher Stadium. Invicta were drawn in Group A alongside St Simon Stock, Maplesden, Cornwallis and Holmesdale.
Invicta started strong with a 2-0 win over St Simon Stock. Next up were Maplesden where Invicta put on a brave display against the hosts but lost 2-0. The team knew that to qualify they had to win their next two matches and they did exactly that! Invicta beat Cornwallis 1-0 and Holmesdale 2-0 with some incredible goals from Imogen in 7G and Sophia in 7N.
Invicta finished second in their group and therefore went into the playoffs against Aylesford who finished 3rd in their group. It was an end-to-end encounter, with some great chances for both teams. However, with seconds to go Imogen Jennings broke through the line of defence and coolly slotted away an exceptional finish.
The team have secured their spot for the Finals at the Gallagher! Well done to the team of Brandy E 7A, Emily A 7A, Olive D 7G, Imogen J 7G, Esther O 7G, Sophia A 7N, Natalia L 7N, Francesca T 7V, Emilia B 7C and Sophie P 7N.
