On Friday, 1 March the Physics Department took students in Year 10 and 12 to Geneva, Switzerland to visit CERN.
CERN is the biggest physics research facility in the world and home to the Large Hadron Collider, the most powerful particle accelerator with the ability to collide protons at speeds very close to the speed of light.
Whilst at CERN the students visited exhibitions explaining the physics behind The Large Hadron Collider and were taken on a guided tour to the CERN Command Centre.
Along with visiting CERN, highlights from the trip included travelling across Lake Geneva to the old town via water taxi and a walk along the lake observing the exceptional scenery the city had to offer.
While in Geneva we had some unforgettable experiences and learnt lots about particle physics. We would certainly jump at the opportunity to do this again!
