Year 8 Science Fair - 2024

It is that time again! Invicta’s Annual Year 8 Science Fair. This year the students rose to the challenge and have set the bar even higher! The students have been working on these projects since December and loved to showcase what they have done. Projects could either be research projects, experiments and for the first time this year - a few inventions! Students were given the opportunity to explore a topic of interest to them, and answer a question they have always wanted to know.
The entire Science Department are so proud of what Year 8 have accomplished. Well done to each and every one of you!
Stay tuned next term for the announcements of the winners and to see which projects will be selected to represent Invicta at the VIAT wide Science Fair. Can we win for the 3rd time in a row? Good Luck to all those students who have submitted entries into the Big Bang National Competition.

On Wednesday, 20 March, Year 8 students came together in the hall to present our findings of what we had researched for our science fair boards that we had been planning since November. The Science Fair was extremely entertaining, the process of creating the board and also looking at everybody’s boards was very interesting. During the science fair you get to learn a series of different things which are very useful and interesting to find out about. The fair was a great opportunity to add to our Invicta Diploma, as it shows our resilience and aspirations for our topics. We have been excited for the Science Fair since we joined Invicta and loved every part of it! Whilst we were presenting our boards, Year 7 students were enjoying the presentations and speaking to us about our boards. It was great to see how much they enjoyed learning and finding out about our topics.

7G and 7S went to see the Year 8 Science Fair on March 20. Inside the Fair, there was a range of different projects from the psychology behind murder to robot cars and if it can help people with disabilities. It clearly showed that a lot of time and work was put into making the projects. The projects I visited included: Why is nicotine addictive? How does Alzheimers effect people and the difference between dementia and Alzheimers? Do Skittles taste the same? How does music affect the brain? There was a range of diversity in the projects, but the one thing they had in common was that they were all amazing! The ideas helped me get ideas for projects I could complete next year.
