Prefect Profile - Daniella, Curie 2

Name: Daniella

Role: Senior Prefect

Subjects Studied: English Literature, Psychology, Film Studies, and History

Favorite Book: I enjoy reading contemporary literature like “Girl, Woman, other” by Bernardine Evaristo, however my favorite book is probably “Excuse me whilst I ugly cry” by Joya Goffney. It’s a heartwarming and comforting YA book about race, late teenage years, and growing up.

Favorite Film: As a film studies student I struggle to choose just one. I love any film by Luca Guadagnino, especially “Challengers” which came out a couple of weeks ago. “Call Me by Your Name” is my highest rated film on Letterboxed as I love the cinematography, soundtrack, and Italian setting. I also love the 80’s John Hughes coming of age films like “Ferris Buellers Day off” and “16 Candles”.

Hobbies: I spend a lot of time on social media, watching movies and reading. I also love baking and listening to music.

Favorite Food: Instant ramen is so good – Indomie is my favorite. I like to add spring onions on top.

Favorite Holiday destination: New York was such an amazing city to visit. There were so many places to visit, especially as we visited all the places in Gossip Girl. Times Square was so interesting and trying all the quintessential “New York” food was unreal.

What is the most challenging thing you have achieved so far? I think one of the hardest things this year was probably the Hustings assembly as I was so nervous about how I would be perceived by the whole school especially with just 1 minute to explain everything I liked about Invicta and hoped to achieve. Luckily as everyday passed public speaking got a lot easier and hopefully clearer due to practice and feedback from friends and teachers who had watched which I’m really thankful for. Overall, I’m really glad I was able to improve my oratory skills.

Why did you want to become a Prefect? I wanted to become a prefect at Invicta as I saw firsthand how the plethora of events, such as rag week, helped with inclusion and school spirit. As these events are organized by the prefect team, I was really interested in collaborating with others to bring about more events. I also found that I really enjoyed working with younger students in school and being there to give a helping hand which being a perfect would help me do.

What are your plans for when you leave Invicta? I’m not really sure what I want to do. I’ll probably do either a Liberal Arts, History, or law degree.

And, finally, what special memories do you have of your time, so far, at Invicta? My favorite memories in Invicta have been with friends at both debate club and law hub which have been great bonding experiences. I also really enjoyed the film trip earlier in the school year to Pinewood studios, as I was still new to the school the trip felt like one of the first times that the class got to know each other beyond first impressions. We explored the studio together and had a lesson on how to use lightsabers from Star Wars. Everything we saw at the studio was so interesting and I’m so grateful that we were able to see such an important studio for film in the UK.
