Invicta Vlogs
As we grow older and reflect, there is no doubt that life is all about turning points; life at school and most importantly, at Invicta is testament to this.
As we grow older and reflect, there is no doubt that life is all about turning points; life at school and most importantly, at Invicta is testament to this. We are always busy and encouraging those that we work with – students and staff alike – to review things, adapt accordingly and change. I think that we are all aware too, that in this world, there are people that do not embrace turning points, because they fear change. However, over the course of my teaching career, I have learned to see shifts in success and forks in the road as huge opportunities. Turning points, while they often come from moments of darkness, can steer us in the direction of great light… or lightbulb moments.
Just this week, I was observing a lesson when a student said. ‘I get it now!’ That was her ‘lightbulb moment’. Throughout the lesson, I could see her being hard on herself because she did not understand, but with the support of her teacher and her peers to encourage her to look at the challenge differently, she could move on. This is a common feature at school and in girls. Students who do not know what they want to do career wise are regularly hard on themselves, as they always feel that they should know what to do. Then, something triggers that change and they find direction. This is sometimes a new-found love of a subject, because of an interest in topics being studied, a respect for the passion for the subject by a teacher or just simply being prepared to do and see things differently. It is the concept of re-thinking things that I like to encourage at Invicta. I do not like us to continually do things one way, just because we have always done it that way. Equally, I like our girls to embrace change and differences. So, as we embark upon our Year 8 Options Week and our Years 9, 10 and 12 reflect on their examination results, I really do want our students to think about the following quote:
“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”
