This week, our theme is ‘Be Accepting: Celebrate Diversity’.
This week, our theme is ‘Be Accepting: Celebrate Diversity’. So, it is apt that we are embracing many aspects of internationalism this week, through assemblies, tutor time and workshops. It is also very fitting that we host our Japanese visitors for the second half of their exchange. Having met the students and staff, I have been nothing but impressed by their conduct and appreciation of education and those around them. Our guests are certainly great role models for such a celebration of diversity this week. But, what has also impressed me, is the way in which our students have embraced their own responsibility of individually hosting their exchange partners and engaging in celebrating both cultures. It has been a delight to see – everything from a typical afternoon tea to a theatre trip to Wicked and all that London has to offer! This, along with the warmth and friendliness that I have witnessed is a wonderful celebration of diversity and acceptance; something of which, I am very proud!
On Wednesday, we will also be welcoming parents and visitors to our Spring Concert. As always, this promises to be a wonderful occasion, whereby we see so many students working together, across all year groups. I have no doubt that this is a great way to see our school community accept and celebrate everyone’s achievements and talents - at one of the highest and most visual of levels. I cannot wait!
So, to enable us to reflect on the importance of diversity, it is pertinent to think about the following quote from Maya Angelou:
“It is time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength.”
I am so very grateful that our parents do exactly this. Thank you very much!
