This morning, I woke to the shocking news that yet another mass shooting has taken place in the United States. We are left wondering how many more such events will take place before some clear action might be taken to address this problem. Sadly, this falls into the category of a ‘wicked problem’, that is, one that has no simple or straightforward solution. We can only hope that with the will of the people, and the leadership of the government, some progress will be made from here on.
On a happier note, following Half Term, Invicta was thriving with activity. As Year 13s studied for Test Week and the entire school were excited for the Non-Uniform Day with a royal theme, a group of Politics students were preparing for a Model UN Conference.
In the current political climate, it is easy to see how tensions are building and fractures are forming in international relations, but the purpose of the UN is unity. The conference brought together schools from all over Southern England and, with some delegates from international schools, a wide variety of people attended. This served to create a microcosm of the UN. This was a powerful learning experience for all involved. I have no doubt that our experiences of this will help make the world a better place. We are extremely lucky to have such an opportunity at Invicta.
Tonight, we are welcoming Year 11 students to our 16+ Open Evening. This is an exciting time for them as they are now able to focus on their individual interests. I hope that our visitors can see the wonderful array of opportunities, just like those I have just mentioned as part of the great curriculum offers at Invicta.
