As we enter our second week of term, it is hard to be believe that we are halfway through the year – it has flown by! Invicta has managed to pack in so much, from IGS Fest in September to RAG week in December and numerous trips including Australia, Canada, Italy and the United States. We have still got plenty more during the rest of the year too!
Years 11 and 13 are preparing for their Proms; students with GCSEs and A Levels are beginning to ‘ramp up’ their revision in order to be rewarded for their work in the summer and rehearsals are underway for this year’s School Production ‘Sister Act’. We are currently hosting students as part of the Italian exchange and we are days away from hosting students from Canada – there is never a dull moment at Invicta!
It also seems there is never be a dull moment globally. There is a Chinese saying ‘may you live in interesting times’. This has both positive and negative connotations. On the positive side, athletes as young as 15 have won gold medals in the Winter Olympics. The time, determination and commitment that these young people put into their sport is inspiring and similar enthusiasm and dedication is something Invicta strives for in all students. But, on the negative side, 17 young people and adults were killed in a Florida school shooting on Valentine’s Day. We are incredibly fortunate in the UK to have strict gun laws. We can only hope that the balance of power that determines gun laws in America will soon change.
On a brighter note, as we come to the end of the Winter Olympics and I sit writing this blog under clear blue skies, it is difficult to believe that the heaviest snowfalls we have seen in five years are heading our way. Maybe we will need to brush up on our skating skills in order to get to school this week!
