Modesty
I think in today’s world, we are all very guilty of underselling ourselves. Whether that be at school, in a sport or just in daily life, we refuse to accept how amazing we really are and how extraordinary our lives can be.
My life consists of the same things as many of my peers; I study three A Levels, I play netball for two teams and I have a part-time weekend job. But, considering there are only 24 hours in a day, I think I deny myself credit for doing all of these things, whilst still making time for my friends and family. When asked ‘how do you possibly fit that all in?’ I tend to shrug and say ‘I just do’.
There is a difference between boasting and being proud and I think more often than not we degrade ourselves in order to avoid being seen as ‘stuck up’ or ‘full of ourselves’. It has taken a while, but I think as my exams start in just under 100 days, I can finally accept that I am intelligent, I am talented and everything I have done, I have achieved through hard work and determination.
There is no harm in identifying our faults, as this can help us better ourselves as people help and assist us in setting goals for future development. However, it is important that we do not forget to identify our strengths and what makes us brilliant; because we all are, sometimes we just need reminding.
