Invicta Vlogs
Back to School
I hope this blog finds you, and your families, safe and well. Two weeks ago, Invicta opened its doors, welcoming both existing and new students for the 2020-2021 academic year. Reuniting with friends and teachers, the September sunshine, and the clear enthusiasm for learning have livened up the school in no time. Despite the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, everyone has quickly taken the changes into their stride. In particular, our strong Invicta community has been noticeable over the last few weeks, as students, teachers, and staff have embraced our return with great optimism.
As part of my legacy as Head Girl, I aim to build upon the community established at Invicta. The network of support, not only among friends, but also across year groups has been incredible to see. Although it has only been two weeks since the beginning of school, we have hit the ground running, putting on the Year 7 and Year 12 Team Building Days in school with many fun activities, ranging from a rounders tournament and an intense game of capture-the-flag, to balloon towers and riddles. Both events were a great success, as students formed new friendships across Tutor Groups, and developed communication and problem-solving skills, through many fun activities.
Every year, Mrs Derrick gives Invicta a challenge. Our challenge for this year is EMPOWERMENT. The meaning behind empowerment is unique to each individual; whether you aim to become more confident, develop your resilience or radiate positivity and kindness. Personally, I believe empowerment is acting like the person you want to become, by relying and trusting upon your own decisions. The determination and self-belief required to actively work towards bettering yourself is an imperative value of empowerment and will aid your success in the future. Importantly, empowerment is not just limited to yourself. Supporting others in achieving their goals provides a great starting point to build upon. Have the confidence, and strength of character, to stand up for what you believe in.
Ahead of us lies a busy, but exciting year. Our new cohort of Year 7 have integrated superbly into our community, attending many clubs and societies. Our Year 12s are enjoying the first few weeks of Sixth Form, beginning their chosen A Levels. Meanwhile, Year 13 are approaching the final steps of the UCAS application process, finishing off personal statements and finalising university choices. Next week, marks the beginning of this year’s POP scheme, with students participating in extra-curricular activities ranging from BOSS Enterprise, Running Club and Ukulele Ensemble. With the upcoming 11+ Open Event, anticipated December performance by the Music department, and our renowned RAG Week, our students have a look to forward to this coming term. Have a lovely week!
