We often hear people say these days that COVID-19 has changed everything. Yes, we are doing things so differently over the last seven months but there are many things that are still the same. Our passion for teaching our subjects; our belief in what our students can do; our students’ yearns for learning opportunities have not changed.
Last weekend, Invicta opened the school up to our prospective students. It was a COVID-19 style open event in which we socially distanced; talking through face coverings and using a lot of anti-viral wipes! But we saw the unchanged keenness in the eyes of Year 6 girls coming along to the Open Day. They delighted us with their questions, impressed us with their eagerness to solve problems and filled us with pride as their faces lit up while they were engrossed in the Headteacher’s talk and enjoying the performance of our socially distanced Choir. On the same day that the Government was considering the three tier system for local lockdowns, these Year 6 students were on a quest for the best secondary school where they will be inspired, flourish and succeed. This has not been changed by COVID!
This week, it has been confirmed that GCSE and A Level examinations will go ahead with a three week delay. Whilst some welcome the announcement as it set a goal for students to work towards, many others feel that exams will be unfair for most students. Don’t forget that there is an unchanged fact that hard work will always be paid off. That has not changed! Our students have been presented with an obstacle along the path but I firmly believe that they will not be put off by it, and that they will get through it. After all, working on a problem reduces the fear of it. Many of us would naturally think that if only obstacles were not there, life would be so good. But life comes with obstacles and we overcome them with our passion, determination and by working together. We will and we shall get through this.
