Start of a New Academic Year
It is a widely known fact that many teachers find themselves rather anxious the night before an academic year; they are like this every year, regardless of how many years they have been teaching.
This is probably down to the excitement of seeing students again, of finding out what they have been up to during the summer, the eagerness to try a new set of challenges, and to see how our plans for the new academic year will materialise. It is that wonderful mixture of anticipation, exhilaration and apprehension that keeps us teachers going year in year out.
I guess many of our students might experience the same feelings prior to coming back to school. The sensation of feeling ready and not quite ready at the same time is so familiar. So if you are feeling excited and nervous in equal measure, so are we!
I guess we all have even more reasons to look forward to the return to school this September. We are all hopeful that we will settle into a more ‘normal’ year. I look forward to being able to do normal things at school again such as seeing a whole year group in assemblies or hearing the buzz of students having lunch in the Dining Hall.
It is that sense of togetherness that we have missed for so long. Our teachers can be together in the Staff Room again and our students can look forward to performing in school concerts, displaying works in art exhibitions and competing in sport tournaments again.
I believe in collective learning, the type of learning that emerges as a result of the interaction amongst learners. Let’s bring on those discussions, debates, conversations, dialogues and so much more that excite us about learning again. Good luck and have fun, at Invicta.
