Invicta Vlogs
As the New Year has dawned, we are always reminded to reflect and make promises on what the future may hold.
During the holiday, I read an interesting article from Richard Branson, ‘Dream – Seriously’. Not only is Richard someone who I admire from a business perspective but his ability to talk about the need to dream is, I believe, eloquent and well defined. It is therefore appropriate to reflect on this concept at a time when we are encouraged to make plans for the year ahead; dreaming should be an integral part of this – whether as part of your future plans or as a way to encourage ambition. Richard stated ‘Don’t betray your dreams for the sake of fitting in. Dreaming is one of humanity’s greatest gifts – it champions aspiration, spurs innovation, leads to change, and propels the world forward.’ His reference that we should all dream, and encourage others to do so too, is something that I relate to. He mentions that in a world without dreams there would be no art, no adventure, no moon landing, no female CEOs, and no civil rights and comments ‘What a half-lived and tragic existence we would have.’ This could not be truer in my opinion.
Richard also refers to the need to not be self-conscious about dreaming, or about people thinking you’re too idealistic, and not serious enough. I also like his view that your ‘self-talk’ should not be judgmental. This is something that our youngsters need to do and we want students at Invicta to embrace. It is important to ‘look at the world with wide-eyed enthusiasm, believe you are more powerful than the problems that confront you, and dream big.’ At Virgin, Richard Branson’s ability to dream has undoubtedly enabled the business to grow from strength to strength. In his article, he outlines how had they not dreamt, they would have never have got to where they are today and by not limiting themselves to what they know or have been told to be true, they have been able to turn one dream into another. We see around us, examples of this spirit in the Galactic Enterprises promoted by Virgin and I am sure we will look back in years ahead at the amazing way this company has pioneered tourism in space travel – not without huge obstacles, but their persistence and ability to believe in their dreams is inspirational. I want all our students at Invicta to not be afraid to dream. So, when we reflect on promises for the forthcoming year, let’s dream as part of that promise. Richard Branson aptly concludes ‘Dream Big and you will be presented with an opportunity to lead the world on an incredible adventure.’ Let our adventure for this year begin!
