Women in Leadership

Name: Rosie

Role:  Author, Podcaster & Founder of Elrose Publishing Limited

A bit about you: I am the founder of Elrose Publishing, an author and a mother to a 5-year-old.  My dream career has always been one that would allow me to empower and inspire others.  I earned my bachelor’s degree in science and an accredited certificate in life coaching. I consider myself an entrepreneur, and to help get myself started I worked in the financial services.  I have a passion for writing and I have recently published a book called ‘Stronger Connections-A Happier Life’ to help people nurture and maintain meaningful relationships.

What is it like working in your company? I have recently established Elrose Publishing. The reason for establishing Elrose Publishing is for me to manage my own books under my own company and enable my future plans to help others publish their books. I really enjoy writing and I have made some meaningful relationships through writing.

Why did you decide to go into your chosen field? I chose to become an author to write books that help people transform their lives.  At the moment, I write self-help books however, I have plans to expand my repertoire and publish fiction books also.

What qualifications and work experience did you need to reach your current position? I believe it is important to have good writing skills, to be creative, and to have a passion for writing if you want to become an author. Additionally, I think it helps to be a voracious reader who consumes as much writing as possible; and then a prolific writer to practice your craft. It is also important to know your audience in order the target your potential readers.

What do you enjoy the most about your job? I really feel fulfilled knowing how impactful I can be to others and helping others overcome challenges. This goes in line with my aspirations.

What obstacles have you overcome in your career? At the moment, I write self-help books. While I can rely a lot on my own knowledge and experience, it is very important to use research to support my ideas. It can be challenging at times to find the supporting information I need for a chapter.  During my time at University, I put in a lot of hours conducting research, which has helped me a lot during my career. Also, being an author is a very competitive, and marketing can be very overwhelming.  I have developed a mindset to never give up, and this has helped me tremendously.

Why do you think it is important to have a strong female representation in your industry? As a female entrepreneur I believe it is empowering to set up your own business. I also believe it is important to reduce the gender gap for a better change, it would be valuable to have more female entrepreneurs to motivate and inspire other women to establish businesses.

What advice would you give those wanting to take a similar career path? The first thing I would say is to believe in yourself and it is always very important to understand who are as an individual. That way you make choices and decisions aligned to you, and your own aims. It is ok to make choices and decisions that are aligned to who you are, even if other people disagree with you at first.

From experience these are the 5 key points I would like to highlight which I found very important in any career path:

  1. Good communication
  2. Strategic thinking
  3. Persistence
  4. Ability to network
  5. Self-confidence
