Year 11 Physics Trip - Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge
Mrs McGrath sent this report:
It had been three years since we have been able to take our Year 11 students to the Physics at Work Exhibition in Cambridge, due to the pandemic, and we had a fantastic day filled with lots of career’s information and ideas for our students in the field of Physics.
The primary aim of this exhibition is to stimulate interest and encourage wider participation in Physics, by showcasing the many and varied ways in which Physics is used in the real everyday world. The exhibition is based upon interaction between active scientific researchers and potential scientists. This included representatives from the AWE (Atomic Weapons Establishment), Quantum Dynamics Research Group, Medical Mavericks, British Antarctic Survey and Isaac Physics. Our students enjoyed lots of interactive workshops, as well as the opportunity to engage with scientists through question and answers sessions. They particularly enjoyed learning about the many undergraduate and postgraduate courses and opportunities that may be available to them in the future.
The workshops followed an enjoyable morning wandering near the many colleges in Cambridge which provided a beautiful autumnal backdrop for our visit.
We were very excited to see a huge show of hands for students who wish to go on and study Physics post 16.
