Cambridge University International Model United Nations
Sophie, Nightingale 2 and Amelie, 11N sent this report: This week, a group of twelve delegates had the opportunity to stay at Sidney Sussex College in Cambridge and participate in the CUIMUN-HS conference (Cambridge University International Model United Nations - High School).
Schools from around the globe came together to simulate the United Nations. Discussing and providing resolutions to a range of issues, from the question of mental health of refugees in refugee camps, to the illicit trafficking of wildlife and more.
Each delegate was required to research their assigned country and issue, collaborate with other delegates to write resolutions, and deliver speeches in favour of their resolution. Being completely new to Model UN, this task seemed massively daunting at first.
However, as the conference progressed over the three days, our confidence grew and, as the delegates of Honduras, we became the main submitters of our resolution. We were even fortunate enough to be awarded “best delegates in our committee” at the closing ceremony!
This experience was an amazing way to develop our communication skills, collaborate and make friends with students from all over the world and increase our confidence in public speaking. The trip also allowed us to experience life at Cambridge University; the highlight being a formal candlelit dinner at Gonville and Caius College.
Thank you very much to Dr Millgate, Mrs Marshall and Madame Dupont for organising this opportunity!
