Staff Profile - Miss Bennett
Name: Miss Bennett
Role: Teacher
Subject: English and Film
Favourite Book: This is an unfair question to ask an English teacher. His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman will always be up there in my all-time favourites. A recent favourite of mine is All That’s Left in the World by Erik J. Brown – it’s a dystopian postapocalyptic adventure novel which I absolutely loved. You should never judge a book by its cover, but this book is as amazing as its cover is beautiful, so an exception to the rule!
Favourite Film: So many but I’m going to answer this with the film I watch the most and that’s Gifted (2017).
Hobbies: Tap dancing, playing football with my pet rabbit Ron and reading. I always have a book on the go, which I suppose makes visiting Waterstones an additional hobby of mine.
Favourite Food: Absolutely a roast dinner! And crispy M&Ms…
Favourite Holiday destination: I’ve been lucky enough to travel to various interesting places and have loved them all, but I think my favourite was San Diego. I spent 10 days there during the summer and saw some incredibly interesting places, such as the USS Midway, Hotel del Coronado (where Some Like it Hot was filmed), the Top Gun bar, San Diego Zoo, Seaport Village and so many more! It was worth the tragic t-shirt tan – or burn – I managed to get on day 1.
If you did not work in a school what job would you like to do? If I weren’t teaching, I would love to be a film director. During my free time at university, I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by like-minded individuals who also enjoyed filmmaking and was able to collaborate on and direct some short films as a result.
What is the most challenging thing you have achieved? My university has an annual student film festival, which is similar to a mini Oscars ceremony. In my final year I took on the role of head of operations and organised the event. Even now, I’m not sure why I thought it was an intelligent idea as I had no experience organising events. It was a massive challenge to take on alongside my studies and dissertation, but so worthwhile; seeing all the students’ films celebrated and awarded was extremely fulfilling!
Why did you decide to work in education? A very cliché reason, but I really love learning so why not help others do so?
How have you found your first term at Invicta? Hectic! It has been a non-stop start so at least I know there will never be a dull moment. Most notably, however, it has been incredibly welcoming. I’ve loved meeting both the staff and students and am looking forward to what lies ahead.
