Maidstone Schools Championship - Cross Country
Mr Shingleton sent this report:
On Wednesday, 19 October we took our cross-country runners to their first competition of the year at the Maidstone Schools Championships. Unlike other years the sun was shining, so the team was positive and full of energy going into the event.
First up was the Year 7 team in their first secondary cross-country competition. The whole team put in an exceptional performance over the 2km distance. They gave it everything they had, going above and beyond all expectations.
Next up was the intermediate girl’s race. We had two students in this race both of whom were eyeing qualification for the next round at the Kent Schools Championships. Iris Crossely and Beth Palmer did not only qualify but finished 1st and 2nd both taking it out hard from the start and finishing in exceptional times of 13 minutes 01 second and 14 minutes 17 seconds.
Finally, our junior girls in Year 8 and 9 set off on their 3km race. This was the biggest field of the day. All our students put in an incredible effort over the tough course. To top this off Invicta gained another victory with a strong performance from Rose in 9A who led from start to finish in a time of 10 minutes 35 seconds.
It is safe to say that all students made the whole school community proud, acting with resilience and also excellent sportsmanship throughout the day. Well done all of you.
