Staff Profile - Miss Sedgwick
Name: Miss Sedgwick
Role: Teacher
Subject: Psychology
Favourite Book: My favourite book is actually a children’s novel as it sparked my love for reading. I remember my Year 6 teacher reading us Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo and I absolutely loved it - it very quickly became one of my favourites! Featuring a shipwreck and a desert island adventure, what’s not to like? I would recommend it to anyone, regardless of age.
Favourite Film: The Blind Side, what makes it even better is that it’s based on a true story.
Hobbies: I love going on dog walks and exploring the countryside. I also really enjoy photography. When I get enough spare time, I also bake because that way I get to eat the finished creations!
Favourite Food: I am a huge foodie so choosing just one cuisine is so difficult but it has to be a takeaway from a Chinese restaurant. I just wish I was able to cook it so that it tastes that good!
Favourite Holiday destination: I love to travel but Mexico is a place that will always have my heart. From swimming with sea turtles and wild dolphins at Akumal Beach to watching some crazy tropical storms it really was the holiday of a lifetime. It was also lovely to spend some quality time with my family, making fantastic memories.
If you did not work in a school what job would you like to do? If I didn’t work in a school, I’d ideally like to be a Clinical Child Psychologist. I love working with children and young people so would want to continue this however the idea of helping to care for people and being an advocate in mental health really appeals to me.
What is the most challenging thing you have achieved? Completing my Schools Direct training year – going from an office job having never stepped foot in a classroom in a teaching capacity to teaching lessons on my own!
Why did you decide to work in education? I’ve always loved being around children, and young people in general. When you teach, in a way you remain forever young, being always surrounded by adolescents, with all their hopes and dreams. I knew that I would thrive in such an environment and loved the idea of impacting upon their learning and future career choices.
How have you found your first term at Invicta? I have really enjoyed my first term here. I love how happy, helpful and polite the students are and how friendly the staff have been - the school feels like a community, with everyone supporting one another.
