RAG Week 2022
Amelie in Curie 1 and Lizzie in Austen 2 sent this report: RAG week and all its events are Invicta’s way of ‘raising and giving’ as much money for local charities as possible, whilst making sure students and staff have lots of fun along the way.
The ‘week’ kicked off on Wednesday, 7 December with our first show, Soccer Aid! Returning after its success last year, the event saw us cheering on our favourite teachers as we watched them face off a team of Year 12 and 13 students in a heated football match.
With the teachers emerging victorious, it was a wonderful way to kick of the week, and a great way for us all to get a flavour of our teachers’ competitive sides!
While they may have been defeated in soccer aid, RAG’s second show ‘Last Man Standing’ gave the sixth formers another chance to shine. The show saw 20 of our Year 12 and 13 boys, compete on stage for the title of becoming the Last Man Standing of 2022. Challenges ranged from a Justin Bieber sing offs, to a speed dress up round, as well as eating some disgusting concoctions including mustard and marshmallow sandwiches, and curried custard saw Mo and Mayvin in Year 12 declared champions - well done both of you!
As we all know, RAG week is not only about the shows. With each day of the week we saw a different dress up theme, and it was so much fun seeing all the creativity around the school. From astronauts to Spice Girls, an array of British Icons to an inflatable Muffin Man (shoutout to Miss Woodford), the range of costumes were fantastic, and I’m sure we can all agree that coming to school in pyjamas is something we should definitely do more often!
The final show of RAG week was the ever popular ‘Stars in their Eyes’, where teachers perform on stage (or rather make a fool of themselves!) to entertain students and attempt to win the competition. This year the acts were the PE department, Leadership Group, Maths Department, and of course, the return of the Invicta Boyband (who even went to the length of recording their own remix of ‘The Real Slim Shady’). After a fantastic display of enthusiasm, the winners were crowned; the Maths Department! Well done to everyone who took part and helped behind the scenes.
The most important part of the week however is of course supporting our 5 RAG charities of the year; Oasis, Books2Africa, Maidstone Mencap, Therapy Partners and Jack the Lad. Overall, all the days of dress up and lunchtime events managed to raise a total of £10,751 for these fantastic charities, and we are so proud to donate such an amazing amount to these causes.
Thank you so much to everyone who got involved with RAG week this year; it was a great way to end the term and raise some money, whilst bringing together the school community just in time for Christmas.
