Post Mortem Live
Mrs Hollett sent this report:
On Friday, 12 May we were lucky to host the Post Mortem Live company. They offer a unique learning experience to observe a recreated post-mortem. Students in Years 10 - 13 were able to witness the dissection of organs including the brain, lungs, heart, and complete GI tract. The facilitators offered insights into how these organs functioned as well as tips for our aspiring medics and other healthcare professionals. I hope this opportunity has inspired our students and will encourage them to follow their passion.

On Friday, 12 May, some of the students in Years 10,11, 12 and 13 had the chance to experience a Post Mortem Live Show, where real animal organs were dissected, detailed explanations on the physiology of the body were described and a chance to take a closer look at what goes on in our own bodies.
Many of the students present had interests in careers in Medicine, Dentistry, Psychology, Criminology and various other careers that have a special interest in the anatomy and the physiology of the body, so having the speaker offer various tips to remember, like medical terms used to navigate through the human body, how the brain, circulatory system and the digestive system work, was very useful as an insight into the processes. One of the most intriguing moments was when they brought out the whole digestive system and all the organs that play a role in it. The smell was quite strong but the fact that we were able to see what actually takes place in the body and the anatomy of all the organs was fascinating. We also got to learn, from a forensic autopsy point of view, various indicators that help identify different causes of death and how recent they were.
Throughout GCSE and A-Levels, Biology is taught from mostly pictures of these human body systems but seeing it in real life really makes biology so much more interesting. I think each student, and teacher in the room had their full focus on the dissections and how engaging the guests were with everyone.
