The Big Bang Science Fair 2023
Mrs Wheeler and Miss Hollett sent this report: After a year of hard work, six students at Invicta were selected as finalists for the Big Bang competition and invited to attend the Big Bang Fair at the NEC in Birmingham. Amelie (8V), Ananya (8V), Jada (10A), Naomi (10T), Sofia (8I) and Srinika (8I) were all asked to exhibit at the event.
It was an early start on the train to London, where some of our students got to experience the London underground for the first time. After 3 ½ hours, we arrived at the fair and students set up their stalls.
Visiting schools and professionals in the science industry all visiting the competition stalls, and our students spent time discussing their projects. Four students even had a visit from Professor Dame Angela McLean, the Government Chief Scientific Adviser.
Students also visited the other sections of the fair, including visiting the Royal Entomological society and holding some rather large insects, to learning all about nuclear power. Students listening to talks from a range of professionals including engineers from Bosch and Oracle.
At the end of the day was the big event – the announcement of the winners. We are very pleased that Jada in 10A was a runner up for the Intermediate science category, and Sofia and Srinika in 8I were runners up for the junior science category. Students received a trophy, certificate and £200.
We are exceptionally proud of all our students and look forward to seeing their projects next year.
