Year 12 Induction, 3 – 7 July
Mrs Skelton sent this report:
On Monday, 3 July Invicta Grammar School welcomed Year 11 students back into school. They were joined by a large number of new students who have applied to start the Sixth Form at Invicta in September 2023. The hall was a combination of excitement at seeing friends and the thought of making some new ones and the anticipation of seeing what A levels are really like. A group of Senior Prefects and House Captains helped to make the newcomers welcome by giving them a tour of the school and sharing their own experiences of Sixth Form life.
After an assembly explaining the logistics of the day the students all went off to ‘taste’ their new subjects. The feedback from students was that these lessons were ‘very helpful’ in confirming their subject choices and a chance to get to know other students with similar interests. As well as taster lessons, students got to attend workshops delivered by Senior Prefects on a variety of key topics including Life in the Sixth Form and A level Mindset.
On Wednesday, they also got the chance to find out about the many opportunities available to them at Invicta Grammar School including World Challenge and World School, which many students were very excited about. The three days in school culminated with time with a sixth form tutor completing an escape room task and a quiz and helping students to feel more settled.
Then, on Thursday morning, 80 students continued the induction week with a two day residential to the University of Sussex where they were told about university life, applying to university and given some useful advice about how to make those choices from current university students. Staying at university accommodation was better than many expected with the highlight being table tennis outside the accommodation (although that might have been Mrs Bailey’s highlight!) and their own bathrooms!
All the students embraced the two days and made some new friendships, or strengthened existing ones, and with a short visit to Brighton on the way home the rides on the pier and ice cream cemented the end of a very positive and successful visit that we hope has helped the transition into Sixth Form life at Invicta.
We wish all students in Year 11 and those who attended induction the best of luck with their GCSE results and look forward to seeing many of them in September.
