Year 10 History Trip
Mr Saputo sent this report:
On Tuesday, 11 July the History Department took 60 Year students to London for an Elizabethan-themed trip.
Students visited Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre where they had a guided tour and workshop from one of the actors in the Globe Players. They gained a real understanding of how the theatre became the centre of entertainment in Elizabethan London.
After lunch it was a short stroll along London’s South Bank to visit the replica of Sir Francis Drake’s ship the Golden Hinde; the first English ship to circumnavigate the globe.
Our guide took us all over the ship- in to some very cramped spaces below decks where banging your head on the timbers was very likely!
Students learned how to raise the ship’s anchor, how to load and fire a Tudor-era cannon and how the ship’s surgeon would treat wounded sailors in the heat of a naval battle. Our guide was really engaging and got the girls involved in all the demonstrations.
