GCSE and A-Level Textiles Trip
Miss Herbert sent this report:
On Tuesday, 3 October, Year 11, 12 and 13 Textiles students from across all disciplines visited the Design Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, capturing fantastic primary research for their individual projects.
Opening to coincide with London Fashion Week, the Design Museum held ‘REBEL: 30 Years of London Fashion’. Students were immersed in one of the most wide-ranging surveys of contemporary fashion culture ever staged in the UK, featuring nearly 100 fashion looks. During the second part of the day, a visit to the V&A Museum offered Art Textiles students a chance to fully absorb cultural, historical and artistic artefacts and exhibits. Fashion & Textiles students also visited the ‘Diva’ as part of this, celebrating the power and creativity of iconic performers, exploring and redefining the role of a ‘diva’ through the years.
Pradita in Pankhurst 1 had this to say about the visit: We arrived at the Design Museum around 11:00 and at 12:30 we went to the Rebel exhibition, it was interesting as we saw a wide range of runway looks from 2011-2023, we could see how diverse the fashion industry has become.
Then we walked to the V&A and went to the Diva exhibition, we were given headphones that played music and changed depending on your location.
On the bottom floor was the origin of Diva from Victorian actresses to showgirls then on the top floor was modern divas such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Adele - the music selection was great, I stood for 10 minutes listening to Umbrella on repeat.
