Staff Profile - Mr Fitzgerald
Name: Mr. Fitzgerald
Role: Schools Direct Science Teacher
Subject: Science
Favourite Book: I have a few books that I love, including the Harry Potter series. However, the two books I have read the most times are ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’ by Viktor Frankl and ‘Shantaram’ by Gregory David Roberts.
Favourite Film: I am not much of a film person. The film I have seen the most is probably the Lion King but I haven’t seen that for maybe 20 years. If I had to pick a more up to date film, it would be Saving Private Ryan. Amazing action scenes. I always remember being at school and one teacher asked us to ‘watch’ the first 10 minutes with our eyes closed and just listen to all of the noises – it truly makes you feel like you are in a war zone!
Hobbies: I enjoy playing the drums and if I have time, you might hear me thrashing around in the practice rooms! Otherwise, I love rugby, football and I need to improve my running as I’m doing a 100km run in May 2024.
Favourite Food: I am a huge fan of Indian food. I really love all the different breads like chapattis, rotis and naans. I spent six weeks in India 6 years ago and loved it!
Favourite Holiday destination: The nicest place I’ve been to for a holiday would be Indonesia. I spent six weeks there and loved the beautiful beaches, the wildlife, and the food.
If you did not work in a school what job would you like to do? I would love to play professional rugby but earn as much as professional footballers!
What is the most challenging thing you have achieved? I have done a few fitness challenges, from cycling 100 miles, running a marathon and in May next year I will be running 100km.
Why did you decide to work in education? I love science and the scientific method; it is how we got to where we are. I fell into teaching accidentally while traveling abroad and really enjoyed the rewarding feeling I got from enlightening students. As a teacher you need to be more than just ‘someone who knows their stuff’, you need to be able to take on many different roles and I enjoy those challenges.
How have you found your first term at Invicta? I have enjoyed the start to this term, meeting lots of the students and meeting the teachers and support staff! Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming, especially those who have helped me find my way around the school. I’m looking forward to the rest of the year and hopefully the bright start will continue.
