Maidstone Schools Cross Country
Mr Shingleton sent this report:
On Tuesday, 14 November several Invicta students took part in the Maidstone Schools XC competition. To say the weather was wet would be an understatement, with rain lashing down ahead of the event. However, the rain did not dampen the spirits of our students. First up was the Year 7 team featuring Mary 7S, Elizabeth 7I, Khaya 7I, Eshter 7G, Enam 7C and Harriet 7C. This was the first outing for Invicta for some students and they certainly did not disappoint! The 2km course was hard however all students finished in some very respectable times.
Next up was the Yr10/11 race. The team consisted of Rose 10A, Rosie 10T, Megan 10N, Anjola 10N, Rylee 10V, Jas 10S and Ella 10V. All students finished the gruelling 4km course with some notable performances. Rose 10A stormed to victory, leaving a mighty gap to 2nd place after a great tactical run! Jas 10S also qualified for the county championships finishing in the top 10 with a great solo effort. A special shout out to Rosie 10T who showed great resilience at the start, after a fall, fighting her way back into the top 10 and qualifying for the county championships. A great team effort!
Finally, it was the turn of the Year 8/9 team just as the sun started to break through the clouds. The team consisted of Rosa 8A, Mary 8A, Maya 9T, Matilda, 9C, Olivia 9I, Haven 9T, Shavianna 9I, Jaya 9T and Caitlyn 9S. Having waited patiently in the rain during the other races the students produced a stunning performance as a team.
Notable performances from Olivia 9I who finished 3rd, not far off the two leaders. Matilda 9C and Rosa 8A also finished inside the top 10 both qualifying for the next round, with Mary 8A fighting to the finish in 13th just missing out on qualification to the county championships. The girls did the school proud and showed great encouragement and teamwork throughout the day. I would also like to thank Miss Abbott who helped to lift the team spirits and provide waterproof bags for all during the constant downpour.
