Year 7 Lego Workshop
Honey in 7S sent this report:
The Lego workshop was so much fun! First, we were sorted into groups by the staff members who had come to run the workshop. We were all buzzing and eager to start using the Lego stacked neatly on the tables in front of us.
The host first explained to us what we were going to be doing. We were to build a house from the pictures given, and all houses must look identical. We all set to work clicking the blocks together, and observing the simple pictures laid out on the table. Many groups finished swiftly, while others needed a bit of help and guidance. After a while, the houses were finally constructed. The host explained what our next task that took up the rest of the workshop was. We were to design and build a stable house, on a budget of £200.
There was a shop that would open after break time where we could purchase our bricks for our chosen design. We needed to calculate the amount of bricks needed to build our houses and how much they would cost. We were to purchase a default of 2 windows, 1 door and 1 baseplate (minimum). Altogether the default purchase added up to £40. Leaving us with £160 to spend on bricks. Until we purchased our supplies, we were allowed to test our designs with the sample Lego used in the beginning.
It took many groups a while to decide what design they were using, and some didn’t start building, but groups could’ve won without a building if their floor plans and designs were creative and easily understood. Through the enterprise, some groups struggled, but got back on their feet with some help. The whole designing and building project took around 2 and a half hours.
For one group, the effort was worth it as they won the sought after prize of a bag of Cadbury Oreo bites. All of the groups worked impeccably hard and all builds were fantastic.
I had a really fun time at the Lego workshop and hope to participate again next year!
