Year 11 Tate Modern Trip
Mrs Warner sent this report:
On Monday, 8 January Y11 Art, Photography and Textiles students braved blizzard, snow and road closures to travel to the Tate Modern art gallery in London to gather valuable primary research for their GCSE exam preparatory work. Students were inspired by the wide range of artworks on display, in particular the stunning, large scale El Anatsui sculptural installation in the Turbine Hall. This monumental artwork is constructed of thousands of metal bottle tops and fragments that are crumpled, crushed and stitched together to form massive abstract fields of colour, shape and line. The students had this to say about the day:
“I felt inspired by how each artist used different medias to display their work and ideas; canvas, textiles, photos, videos and installations.” Izzy, 11T
“I found comparing my own original thoughts with the written information about the artwork inspirational as I was able to see how one piece of art can be interpreted in many different ways depending on the person or perspective.” Sophia, 11S
“I liked how the different artwork all had a deeper meaning and how it could lead to the development of my own work through the exploration different medias.” Spoorthi, 11A
