The Maidstone Schools football tournament saw an exciting series of matches culminating in a strong performance from Invicta Year 7s Football Team, who emerged as the runners-up and silver medallists. Invicta were cheered on by students, staff and parents throughout the evening with a lovely, supportive and enjoyable atmosphere.
Semi-Final: Invicta vs. MGGS
The semi-final match against MGGS was a tightly contested affair. Both teams displayed solid defensive strategies, making it difficult to find scoring opportunities. However, Invicta’s persistence paid off when Faith Jenkins 7I found the back of the net, securing a crucial goal that ended the match 1-0 in favour of Invicta. Jenkins’ goal was a standout moment, showcasing her skill and composure under pressure. The goal was a great team effort, moving the ball up the pitch with ease.
Final: Invicta vs. Maplesden
In the final, Invicta faced Maplesden in a highly anticipated match. Despite a valiant effort and strong defensive plays, Invicta was unable to score against a resilient Maplesden side. Maplesden managed to break through Invicta’s defence and scored the only goal of the match, resulting in a 1-0 defeat for Invicta.
The entire team played with resilience and composure, showcasing great sportsmanship and comradery. Among the highlights of the tournament was the remarkable performance of Esther Okyere 7G, whose exceptional defending earned her the runner-up spot for Player of the Tournament. Okyere’s defensive prowess was instrumental in Invicta’s journey to the final, and her efforts did not go unnoticed. Well done Invicta Year 7 Football team!
